This week saw Google launch a Price Competitiveness report in Google Merchant Center. This report shows how competitive your product prices are when compared with others selling the same items.
WHERE DO I FIND THE PRICE COMPETITIVENESS REPORT?
Login to Google Merchant Centre using your Google Account, then navigate to Growth > Price Competitiveness
If this is the first time here you can select ‘Join Program’ to enable the price comparison feature.
WHAT DOES THE PRICE COMPARISON REPORT SHOW?
As an overview, you can see how many of your products are above the benchmark price (the average across other retailers) as well as how many are at or below the benchmark price:
There is also another section for ‘No benchmark price’ where Google doesn’t have enough data to see if these products are above or below the benchmark. This will tell you how many of your products can’t be price compared.
CAN I FILTER THESE PRICE COMPARISONS?
Within the report itself, you can filter to see exactly which products are more expensive that the competition by using filters such as Category, Brand, Product ID etc. but also on the benchmark price difference making it easy to see which products you are not price competitive on.
As well as individual products you can also see data on product groups. This is very useful for seeing how entire product ranges compare to competitors for price competitiveness.
HOW DO I BENEFIT FROM THIS?
Be sure to enable the report in Google Merchant Centre then you can filter the data to see reports on how you compare on price to competitors. Then this data can be used to make adjustments to your Google Shopping PPC campaigns.
