It’s always important to get your business in front of as many potential customers as possible. There are the usual methods of doing this, such as PPC advertising and ensuring your website is found in the search engines through SEO. However there are also new ways of increasing your visibility.
What is Google Discover?
There are currently more than 2.5 billion Android devices in the world and those devices have access to Google’s new recommended feed feature which is known as Google Discover.
Google Discover suggests content that is related to topics it thinks the user will be interested in. This appears in the form of cards that a user can scroll through:
How can I be seen on Google Discover?
As Googlebot reads your website (the same as it does to update your SEO listings) there isn’t any special way to submit content to appear in the Discover feeds.
However here are some tips on the types of content to produce for your website in order to increase your chances of appearing on Google Discover:
- Produce content that is fresh. Although Discover isn’t limited to only showing brand new content, recent content always works well as Google wants to give users new information
- Making your content related to what is in the news will increase exposure for those following certain news stories
- Clearly outline your topic so Google can easily relate your content to the interests of users
How do I monitor performance?
Performance of Google Discover can be monitored using Google Search Console. When your content starts appearing in the Google Discover feeds you will see an option for Discover in the performance report:
This report is separate to the Search results report in Google Search Console as a user isn’t searching and finding your website. Instead, content is being recommended to them.
Within the Discover report you can see how many impressions and clicks have been generated by your content as well as what content has generated these:
